Definition and Classification of Electric Tricycles
An electrically operated tricycle is a three-wheeled transportation vehicle that is powered by an electric battery and driven by an electric motor. It is used for carrying goods or passengers. Electric tricycles can smoothly navigate through narrow roads. Due to their strong applicability, flexible maneuverability, simple maintenance, convenient repair, and low cost, they are widely used in short-distance transportation fields such as households, urban and rural areas, individual rentals, factory areas, mining areas, environmental sanitation, community cleaning, etc.
Electric tricycles can be classified by their purposes into cargo electric tricycles, passenger electric tricycles and special vehicles.
A cargo electric tricycle is mainly an electric three-wheeled vehicle designed and equipped for transporting goods.
Generally, it can be classified into three-opening type, four-opening type and semi-penetrating type according to the vehicle structure. Cargo electric tricycles usually are equipped with a mid-mounted motor of 500 watts or more and large-capacity batteries. The load capacity can generally reach over 300 kilograms.
The manned electric tricycle mainly refers to an electric tricycle designed and equipped for passenger transportation.
Generally, it can be classified according to the vehicle structure into fully enclosed electric tricycles and leisure models, etc. The motor, battery and load capacity of the fully enclosed electric tricycle are usually similar to those of the cargo electric tricycle. The leisure model usually has a motor with a power of 350-500 watts, and the battery capacity is also smaller than that of the cargo electric tricycle. The load capacity is usually no more than 200 kilograms.
Special vehicles mainly refer to those that have been specially modified or equipped with fixed devices, and their main function is not for carrying people or transporting goods, but for having specific purposes.
They are electric tricycles with special uses, including dedicated electric tricycles for express delivery, various types of factory-specific electric tricycles, and tourist sightseeing vehicles, etc. Dedicated electric tricycles for express delivery are electric tricycles specifically used for express delivery collection and delivery services. Their dimensions, motors, batteries, and load capacity are usually similar to those of leisure models, and the maximum speed is usually no more than 15 km/h. Factory-specific electric tricycles are used in environments that are generally harsh, requiring the motors, batteries to be durable, able to adapt to dusty, high-temperature, and rough road conditions, and having higher requirements for frame materials, welding techniques, etc.
